Tee Falls Closes Georgetown Pike McLean

A weekend of rain and thunderstorms resulted in flooding and downed trees around Fairfax County. The report is a downed tree closing Georgetown Pike in McLean Monday. Georgetown Pike is closed in both directions between Linganore Drive and Swinks Mill Road, according to Fairfax County Police. Crews are working to remove a tree from a power line. The closure is in effect just west of Capital Beltway and next to Scott's Run. Read more here

However, if a tree falls during a weekend of thunderstorms, it can result in road closures. Downtown Pike in McLean was closed due to a tree falling. Georgetown Pike was closed going both ways and crews had to remove the tree from a power line before they could reopen the road. The road has to remain closed due to more than just the tree however, there is damage to the road and high water. It is expected McLean will experience more issues due to the weather and will experience flooding. It is important to be mindful of road closings and flooding areas so you can stay safe as you travel.


Fort Marcy in McLean, VA

Fort Marcy was built and planned with the intent to protect the chain bridge that was used to reach Washington D.C. back when the Civil War took place. Fort Ethan Allen, Fort Marcy’s counterpart, was also used for this reason. Fort Marcy has many trenches, rifle pits, earthwork walls, and even parade grounds. These areas are some of the best preserved defenses that can be found from Civil War Days. Fort Marcy is now part of a wildlife corridor that surrounds the capitol. There is plenty to do at Fort Marcy. You can take a self guiding walk to see the connection between Fort March and Fort Ethan Allen while enjoying the rich history that is contained here.
